They do when you can't accept an alternate opinion yes, maybe its something that needs to be worked on?
I get quite passionate on certain issues in the media, if some find my posts or comments boring then don't reply or quote me simple as...
Or alternatively give me my own sub forum and I will happily rant away to myself...

I don't think it should be separate. All SERIOUS STORIES are political anyway. If it's something serious then politics and government are going to be involved. I think it's just going to create a lot more confusion about what is "serious debate" and what is "political". The current system is working just fine imo. If we were going to split the forum, then i tink it would be better to split it into a WORLD Serious Debates section, and a UK Only Politics section qwhere you just talk about UK politicians.

Like fruitcake said, some serious debates like 'can men and women ever be friends?' has no basis in news or politics but is caught up in the news and serious debates section.
I don't have a problem with it myself, but others seem to have an issue with it.

The type of news story will determine how 'serious' it is - what some regard as serious - others wont. You can't please all the people all of the time. Common sense prevails......

Politics is a huge part of life -whether interested in it or not - to suggest there should be no Political threads at all is bizarre.
Yes, but what about all those times where you have the sub-forum filled with "5-year-old gets A* at GCSE Maths"? Should these also get classified as Serious Debates?

Balances itself out so instead of having a section with a mix of both serious debates and trivia it would be better to have separate sub-forums.

Yes...It is a serious debate, is the kid a prodigy, or are they right GCSE's are far too easy
It is a political issue too, due to the education reforms....
You just can't get away from it can you?...

In the world's current economic condition, there's obviously debate about politics but if you take a look at the Serious Debates and News section about 99.999999...% of the posts there are political. If there are that many threads on the same topic would you not just give it a separate board to continue so we can have a variety of other topics discussed ... which is primarily what the section was made for?

Lots of things are in the news, I wouldn't say that high percentage are political to be fair.
Who else starts political debates?...Hardly anyone, most are happy to chat shiz all day.
Why are people so fixated on SD all of a sudden?
When was the last time you created a thread in there?

Had to be yesterday didn't it!!! ffs ....

Why not? This is an open forum and people are more than free to comment on threads even if their opinions don't fall under the banner of 'positive'.

If you dont like the topic dont respond to it if you have a topic that you want to talk about start it and debate it.
It isnt compicated.
InOne with all due respect you have no right to complain if you dont contribute.

If you don't like the topic you of course do have the option of voicing your views on it. The sole existence of these internet forums is for people to say what they want and voice any views they have - whether you like them or not.

This stupid teenage notion that states that you have to have positive views on a topic before commenting on it is a load of bollocks and completely misses the whole point of ... erm ... opinions.

Bottom line is you can't tell someone not to comment on a particular thread just because you don't like their views.

It's that simple.

Good for you, you still haven't explained why they offend you so much.
If you don't comment in political debate why does it affect you so deeply?
I was under that impression off season that those who wanted to post other topics for debate were entitled to do so..

During this time of political and social change these threads may pop up for those who wish to dicsuss them, and they may get heated at times, if that offends you theres not a lot I can do about it.
