Adele has had a bigger impact was my point, the fact it would have sold more than WTSMG in 2 years, whereas thats been out for 15+. Also with album sales heavily since then, it further proves my point

Yes and I fully understand your view sales wise, and im not in anyway saying that Adele hasn't had an impact, I was more looking at influence to the industry The Beatles could one day be outsold, but that wouldn't mean that they've made any less of an impact if you get me?

Hate Oasis, so don't care. As long as Queen stay at the top.

Did WTSMG really have a long term impact? I'm not denying it's classic status or the fact that as a stand alone epoch of it's time it will err ... live forever ... but what was it's long term impact? Britpop drove into a creative cul de sac and got destroyed by OK Computer by 1997.

Dance became mainstream and took over and then eventually gave out to a new wave of indie rock in the early to mid noughties. A handful of bands who made it big like Kasabian will cite them as an influence but beyond that?

Oasis has a huge impact in a sense but it was mostly unto themselves. They done more to solidify this mythological image of themselves as self destructive cartoon psychopaths than they did to push music along. They didn't really change anything. They were just really, really hot for a few years.

As in some of the songs off the album are now considered classics and you still hear them played fairly often. We can only wait and see if that happens with Adele.

I definitely think it will happen. The way we purchase and consume music might have radically changed but these have become huge, huge tracks. They won't just vanish. Even cheesy tracks have carved a path to longevity through this whole irony culture that pervades in entertainment. Adele shouldn't have a problem.

Mind you I'd still apply my argument against Oasis' creative impact on to her in fairness. They're just really good songs. 21 isn't a landmark album in terms of the evolution of music. But that sounds horribly pretentious. Not every artist has to move the medium on.

Actually 21's biggest impact will probably be the fact that in the age of not paying for music, it's sold so bloody much.

Someone Like You will stick around probably. Other than that the others are pretty forgettable.

Adele had help writing some of the songs too, Noel wrote them all by himself. Music included. Therefore I'm always going to prefer WTSMG in creativity terms.

But this is coming from a die hard Oasis fan of course and it's only my opinion

I don't think how much she wrote is really the point though.

The fact she isn't manufactured is good enough for me.

Having said that, I only really like Rolling in the Deep myself.

This. We live in an age where album slaes have slumped dramtically and people steal most of their music from download sites, so the fact it will achieve so much is an amzing feat, even if it isn't the best album in the world.

I don't know why it's such a big deal, music is music you dont need your favourite artists to be the best in the world, as long as they keep making the music you love and more people have spent money on music/albums over the past 10ish years than they did back in the early 90s and even more than in the 60/70/80s

It's not a big deal but it's fun to discuss. Nobody really takes charts and sales to heart as a marker of intrigue and integrity. That's MM&I's gimmick.
