I think this has been discussed on here before but I can't remember who said they suffer from them..
I had a really bad one last night (only my 2nd ever) and I'm now feeling really nervous incase it happens again. Is it normal for them to hit so suddenly when I have no worries or anxieties at all?!

I don't really suffer from them though. I've had one before... I was lying on the couch relaxing at the time which I found strange

I had an ex who used to get them at night time, but she used to have that "witch on the chest" condition.

I had those too (I know I sound like a neurotic wreck) but they were the worst kind. Still gave the odd one now and then but know what they are more now.

We'd end up walking up the street at 3 am in the morning to try and clear her head. Really distressing. |

Hmm, from some stuff I've just read there could be a lot of reasons. Apparently even small things like caffeine, nicotine or withdrawals from medication can all be stimulants for one. Hope you're okay Lee.

panic attacks are the living hell!
they are the closest feeling you will ever get to dying without dying. Last edited by thesheriff443; 14-01-2013 at 01:16 PM. |

I know how you feel Lee. I have had many panic attacks over the years and they can come out of nowhere for no apparent reason. You begin to imagine all sorts of awful things, mainly that of dying and that no one will find you. When I'm having one, I usually go to a neighbour. It is important to be in company, if you can, just so you feel you are not on your own. If no neighbour is available I get out of my flat asap and walk around the grounds outside or sit on a bench making sure there are people about, just in case. I also keep paper bags at hand, remarkably they do calm me a little. When the panic attack is finally over, even though it seems to last ages, you can feel pretty shattered as if your energy has been spent. They are really frightening but you are not alone. And the most important thing is to tell yourself 'no I'm not going to die and I'm going to fight this.' Stay strong.

My panic attacks used to consist of me worrying that I would run of breath, not be able to breathe at all and die, I used to hate them but they take you by such suprise

Likes cars that go boom

I would see your doctor for a check up lee, check your resting heart rate at intervals through the day.
Following a car accident years ago I was given beta blockers for a racing pulse 4 months later! I had no idea why or how it was happening as I felt fine.

I had beta blockers too Kizzy. I still have repeat prescription but thankfully now can control breathing etc that helps when I have an attack.

Lee, it's dead easy for me to say this but you have to try and relax....is someone in with you? You need to distract yourself, talk about any **** but don't think about it if you can... ring someone if no-one is in with you. If not get one fresh air and take really deep breaths and concentrate on your breathing.....I used to feel mine moving from my toes (weird thing but that's the only way I can describe it) and if I breathed slowly I could stop them...try not to panic as this will make you hyperventilate.....just in through your nose and out through your mouth. Let me know when you are feeling better....
