I think it'd be perfectly possibly to call him back in a calm, polite and nice manner and explain to him in a caring way that the food cost £10. I'm sure he'd be able to understand if you spoke to him with respect for his feelings. If all else failed I'd just let him off, but I'm pretty sure if you explained it in a kind manner he'd be more than capable of understanding.
