Positive PR from a business sense from their point of view too and on a marketing aspect.

DS wans't so bad a few years back now. It started to degrade in my opinion when the original owners sold it to some mag owners, that to me was when differences were noticable. That might also be when the pay to join started?

And without looking back through posts in the thread, someone mentioned about older members getting better treatment on there, I don't believe that to be true. I was a member from October 2002, and after the takeover there just noticed things seemed to get steadily worse for many members no matter how long they had been a member. I chose to have my account there closed a couple or more years back now, and joined here instead. I have settled into the Tibbs way of life now, and much prefer it it to DS.
