Default Lloyd Georges funeral

the worlds greatest politician in my humble opinion and greatest leader was buried at the end of world war 2 in 1945

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00hbb3s

http://www.britishpathe.com/video/ll...orge-funeral-1

No state funeral, no military procession, no monarchy, no 20 gun salute....just the whole of wales turned up on a north wales riverbank.

meanwhile thatcher will get the full rich mans funeral, by the elite and for the elite....LG's was a far classier more working class affair in the wondrous welsh mountains of criccieth, a man and a funeral by the people for the people.

no one man in the history of this or perhaps any nation did more for the poor, the oppressed, the sick, the needy , the working class too, he was also most supportive of the jews and the military.

this one man alone, invented the entire tax system, the entire national insurance system, the initial introduction of the welfare state, the vote for women and working class men too (priot it had been all down to landowners)
this all lead eventually to the NHS too....he preached for the poor, he even charmed the king and the landowners to agree to tax themselves. just how charming was this man?

as our greatest chancellor he got us through the great depression, as our prime minister he got us through the great war too taking over during the most disastrous war in british history with generals sending millions of men to certain death from 1000s of miles away from the front line...he duly lead is to victory and afterwards....then helped delegate as the russians and the yanks carved up the world.

he went onto to become the 2nd longest serving member of parliament ever with 55 years in westminster

far from squeaky clean, he had alleged affairs, he was also accused of being involved in dodgy cash for peerage allegations....he was also accused of appeasement in africa and pre war in 1936....but he had seen such bloodbaths he felt concerned that germany was being kept too poor....but by 1938 he fully supported a war against germany

a giant and as far as Im concerned proof that the most radical people who cantruly change the country for the best usually has to come from outside the rich elite.

If Llyod George had been in power and died during this era, he would have had a more publicised funeral etc

The country was at war when Lloyd George died. I think they had other fish to fry.

Why should you be offended?

The country was coming to the end of World War 2. The population was beaten into the ground and broke, everyone had someone fighting, everyone had lost someone dear to them, millions were displaced, homeless, doing war work, living on rations... I don't deny he was a great politician but to moan that he wasn't given a proper send-off when people were still fighting a war... that's fickle.

youve missed the point again. his funeral was low key because he was a servant for the poor....its ONLY the servants of the rich and the aristocracy who ever get massive state funded funerals

No I think William Gladstone was a better prime minister, he was prime minister on four separate occasions and he worked tirelessly on many issues including social reform across a wide range of issues. He also campaigned on many issues including electoral reform. He was 84 yrs old when he left office for the last time . He was affectionately called the grand old man and the people's William.

you used the disgustingly fickle disrespectful phraise the state had bigger fish to fry when describing the death of a giant....... that I found profoundly offensive, cold hearted and mean spirited. by the way its strange how the monarchy and extended family always found the cash to have endlessly extravagant lavish events....the endless flash weddings, the cornotation, the opening or parliament....yet lloyd george got barely a footnote....same with clem atlee and neu bevan to name but a few. no doubt left wing legends like tony benn will get nothing too.....but lloyd george is a bigger figure than anyone else and he deserved much better.

Also had a state funeral, the Tories don't have a monopoly on lavish ceremonies (although Gladstone was very different to more recent liberals of course)
