Quand il pleut, il pleut
|
Jeremy Clarkson was last night at the centre of a new storm – after saying that babies should be put in the luggage hold on flights.
The Top Gear presenter had just flown to Scotland when he tweeted: ‘When will British Airways realise that babies belong in the hold?’ But Justine Roberts, of the website Mumsnet, hit back: ‘There are plenty of Mumsnet users hoping British Airways will realise Jeremy Clarkson belongs in the hold' Clarkson, 53, has a long history of talking himself into trouble. He has joked about the deaths of 23 Chinese cockle-pickers in Morecambe, suggested striking public sector workers should be shot, mocked Korean automobile workers for eating dogs and branded BMW ‘Nazis’ Yesterday, in response to The Mail on Sunday’s enquiries about babies flying he tweeted: ‘Mine didn’t fly till they were old enough to behave.’ BA said: ‘We welcome families, including infants, in all cabins.’ The BBC would not comment Clarkson has previously been criticised for his outspoken opinions. Most recently, he sparked outrage when he cracked a joke about the Stuart Hall scandal. He wrote on Twitter: 'Can I just say that I've worked at the BBC for 24 years and in all that time no-one has ever tried to put his finger in my bottom.' Ex-BBC football commentator Stuart Hall admitted 12 indecent assaults on girls aged nine to 17 over 18 years last week and was labelled an 'opportunistic predator.' He also described former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who is blind in one eye, as a 'one-eyed Scottish idiot' while on tour in Australia in 2009. In 2010 an audience member told him she was American during an episode of Top Gear, to which he replied: 'You can't be, you're nowhere near fat enough' He said the Perodua Kelisa was probably built in the jungle by people who wear leaves for shoes in a 2007 broadcast, enraging the Malaysian manufacturers. While driving a truck in 2008 he made a joke about lorry drivers murdering prostitutes, saying: 'You've got to change gear, change gear, change gear, check mirror... murder a prostitute. Change gear, change gear, murder. That's a lot of effort in a day.' After Top gear co-host Richard Hammond described Mexicans as being 'feckless' and 'lazy' in 2011, Clarkson joked that Mexico wouldn't complain as the country's UK ambassador would asleep in front of the TV. He wasn't, and a complaint was issued http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ane-cabin.html |

Jeremy Clarkson is an arsehole, and people should just ignore him, but being stuck in a metal tin for 4 or 5 hours with a baby screaming for the duration is an absolutely horrible experience.
Other people pay for their flights as well as families. |

Never been on plane journey where a baby has cried continually for the duration and I get on a plane an average of 12 times a year, you must be just unlucky!

I agree it is awful. Also if you have an older child kicking the back of your chair and continually grabbing the back of your chair and your hair but I don't know what could be done as children will be children. I have only taken my son once on a plane and he was 10 months old. I was really bothered before we went that he would be a nightmare but luckily he slept through most of the flight except when another screaming child woke him up. It's just as stressful for the parents as it is for other passengers more so in some cases as you know everyone is looking and judging you.

it's just difficult when they are toddlers and haven't got the concept of being in such a confined space and issues like that. Older children yes, you should like you had it right Cherie...shoes off is a great idea. (am storing hints for next time I fly hehe)

I had no choice Annie but to fly with mine from when they were babies as all my family are in Ireland, and as I often flew on my own with them, we had the flying thing down to military precision. All I can say is thank God for hand held consoles and Top Trumps!

I cannot stand this man, how or why he gets so much coverage in the media is beyond me, he even apparantly has a weekly column in a paper,The Sun I think it is,that says just about everything as to him though.
He is the one and only reason I will not watch Top Gear, I find him one of,if not already the most arrogant and offensive people possible. |

Pretty much this, how many times have you heard people say something similar after being stuck on a bus/plane with a screeching baby?

I don't care what he says because I cannot stand him anyway and would even avoid listening to him on radio or TV for that matter.
What I object to is his daft, childish and often totally offensive remarks being printed in things we buy or watch. Let him say what he likes to those around him prepared to listen but cut him off from the mainstream media and consign his often rotten and insulting comments to the dustbin. |

Yeah of course he is joking, but does he need to say it at all, many people take flights with babies/toddlers for many reasons, the same way they take trains, and ferries. Whatever method you use can be stressful, it's easy to be smug when you know you are not going to be travelling with a child anytime soon. Hopefully he will have to travel with his grandkids some day and he has a really torrid time.

Luckily I've never encountered this, and I've been on some very long flights.
I could imagine it would be hell though. Especially if you've got the type of parent who just scowls at you for daring to suggest mummy's little darling could possibly be doing anything wrong.

tantrums are worse than crying because you just want to tell the parent to sort their brat of a child out.
i can imagine why the kids would cry though. flying is a horrible experience. apparently when i was like a month old i was crying for an hour straight and we got moved because of it and everyone cheered hahaha it made my mum angry though
