For instance as we have her on the rack today, if Jackie was an ex policewoman would her behaviour be something we should respect. Or is this going down the wrong track.

Respect doesn't mean agreeing all the time with others or always either respecting their position and status too.

Just because someone disagrees with another does not mean they disrespect them, if they shout them down or don't listen to what they are saying then that is more like disrespect.
I think in the main, for instance, Dan's main gripe is the way some, like the Twins, shout at him.
He of course has allowed himself to be guilty of the same too at times once things get heated.

Respect has many forms,I respected my Grandparents,as a child rarely speaking until I was brought into the conversation. you do that out of respect for them and also their age.
However they also earned that respect too.
People who just demand respect are as wrong as those being seemingly disrespectful.

Having said that some professions, like the Medical profession, Police, Firemen, Teachers do and should command some level of respect unless they totally abuse their position of authority.

If I had to sum up respect, for me it would be not so much what you 'have' to 'say' or 'do' to someone but it is much more about 'how' you 'say' or 'do' it.
If people try to be reasonable,no matter the issue, then they are more likely to get a more positive response in the main,I think anyway.

That's not exactly what I mean. I don't think Dan deserves respect because he used to be a policeman but I think on duty Policemen walking down the street deserve respect (obviously not if they're abusing their position) because they're out there trying to keep the peace and have to put up with a whole lot of pure disrespect for trying to do that

I think the bigger issue with Dan is he has a child closer in age to the twins than the twins are to his age. Any parent cringes at how the twins behave, and it has to be in Dan's head that if his child ever acted the way they do, he'd be 1) embarrassed and 2) sitting them down immediately to set them straight. The problem is it's not his obnoxious brat running around the house, it's someone else's. That and they're probably too far gone to be helped even if their own parents did finally decide to parent them.

Being in stuck in the house with them has to feel like a gigantic unpaid babysitting job. They want all the perks of being "babies" but then still expect to be able to talk down to people like "peers". They can't have it both ways.

Yes I agree with that. I do not feel respect for Jackie because of her overall behaviour towards others. She is disrespectful.

I am with you on that anne666 and just because they are younger than her that should not mean she should automatically expect or get respect unless she shows respect to them as equals.

He has gone into the house as a contestant therefore he deserves no more respect than anyone else. Sophie was right when she said he was treating people as if they were children.
I actual find him very juvenile and just cannot see him detecting anything.

Jack and Joe are children. "Only 18" is their fallback excuse for everything from being spoiled rotten brats to now knowing how to cook (despite feeling they are qualified to criticize how Dan does it).
