Dan quit his high profile police job working on Operation Yewtree to do BB.
He seemed to be very good at his job and promoted fairly early in his career. So why quit? If he found the nature of Yewtree distressing why not just move to a different area of policing or take a sabbatical. He obviously saw £100K BB prize as a huge incentive, but he's not sat on the fence a la Sam or been an OTT stand out large fan-base HM like Dexter or Gina (even though he's one of the more talkative HM). Dan seems to be someone who spends a lot of time strategising, trying to work things out. Obviously he doesn't know the twist, but surely he must realise the only people he could stay in over in a nomination battle are Callum and Hazel. If he doesn't win - which WE know is a strong possibility - will Dan regret leaving the force, or is he trying to forge some sort of showbiz career? He said himself the force wasn't for him and he didn't feel comfortable in it.

I think Dan thought he would win no doubt in his mind.
Think that is why he overreacted to being up weeks ago. I think he thinks he is gonna win. |

It is a challenge, and dan seem the kind to want to be constantly challenged physically and emotionally.
It is a fabulous experience and one that I think most would love to have as it tests you as a person, if it leads to a career too then that would be a bonus I guess.

The only person who will get legit fame post BB is Hazel.
She will feed off Daley ejection story before hooking up Calum Best and ditching him for a C-list Premier League footballer (probably someone like Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace or Nathan Dyer at Swansea FC). Being Irish she comes with additional nation interest (the Daley story made into into several high profile Irish paper and blogs). She will do plenty of lads mags, lingerie shoots and the inevitable 'Hazel's first time topless* shoot in FHM'. She will re-ignite a feud with Georgia Salpa and end up getting into pre-planned Twitter spats with:
She will try and fail to hang out with mega star Cara Dehowdidshhebecomefamous and attempt to be linked/ beard for Harry Styles. *except she's got her boobs out already but this will be conveniently forgotten |

Dan sort of hinted that he thinks this will be a springboard to set off a Gay entertainment career and he already mentioned that any money he can get from BB including a PART of the Prize Fund will be needed to fund his (at the moment) non existent, "career".

Half the people on here would probably leave their job to go on BB.

Why does anyone go on to BB,for likely several reasons, not just one.He indicated working on the Jimmy Saville case had been distressing for him, even as a Detective.
So BB was maybe a chance to get away from that and then go on for the experience, as a test to himself, the possible hope that it may lead to something else and also the possibility you might win and gain some security. As well as meeting some new people. He probably isn't that different to most that have gone on if they are all truthful about it.. Last edited by joeysteele; 24-07-2013 at 12:56 PM. |

I have a feeling his career was going nowhere in the force. He may have had aspirations for promotion to Detective Sergeant, but could have been told he wasn't up to it........ too paranoid! ![]() |

But his career was doing well in relation to his age. Loads of 33 police folk are still officers etc.

I know loads of Police officers who can never get past uniform. Just to set the record straight a bit more fairly. Many people in jobs get sick of them after a good while, he didn't say he was sick of the job, he indicated that he had found this case he had been working on, the Jimmy Saville case, too distressing. There are some things that draw a line for people no matter what jobs they may be doing. |

Well he may also have said that, but he definitely said he left to go on the show, can't remember when he said that, though.

We would need to hear from Dan as to his personal reasons for leaving anyway, however my guess is he was distressed as he said, I have no reason to doubt that, I would have liekly been too, with the Jimmy Saville enquiry.
It is likely he wanted a good break from the force, he wanted to go on BB, the fuss from the Police when he went in was likely because he was given a choice leave the force or go on BB, not have both. Or something along those lines. The prize money of £100,000 max, if no money splits occur, is not that much really,as a Detective he would earn pretty good money in fact. He chose to leave and go on BB clearly though. |

If he had been told at an annual appraisal that there was little prospect in the foreseeable future of making DS, I would think that could have an impact.
But for someone to give up a job paying (with his seniority) about £40k a year is a big deal, especially if you have no alternative career path planned. It's not as if all he was losing was JSA - as with a lot of HMs past and present. Lol! ![]() |
