Default Is it possible for animals to hate you?

My neighbours cat is the most friendly cat there is. It will sit on your lap and let you stroke it's belly all day, play with cat toys and even make funny little meow gestures that make everybody laugh.

That is until it sees me and then it turns into that cat from scary movie 2. It hisses at me, refuses to let me stroke it and once even used my leg as a scratching post. One day I seriously think this cat is going to top me when nobody's looking, I don't know what to do.

Is there anything I can do? Why does it hate me, I'm a nice person most of the time.

Lmao.

I'm looking after my sister's dog at the moment and he wasn't used to me at all, hardly ever saw me so he got a bit depressed, wouldn't eat his food and had a barking fit when I went anywhere near him. Thought I was in for a week of hell.

But now after a couple of days of playing with him and giving him treats, he's calmed down and keeps putting his head on my lap.

But with cats, they can be vicious.

At least your sisters dog eventually gave in and befriended you.

I think the only time this thing will give in is if it puts me in a wooden box with a lid the thing's a chuffing maniac.

It even stares at me through their window ledge sometimes, it doesn't say anything but I can tell it wants to bury its claws in my face and rub its pencil sharpener arse all over my new trainers.

Oh great, there's no way I am leaving the house now.

You see the eyes on that thing? That's the eyes it gives me when it's skulking around.

The irony didn't get past me either, the great man would be ashamed at my lack of affinity with this rancid feline.

Do you have a cat or a dog of your own? Cats are intelligent crafty animals. If it smells another animal on you that could be the reason.

Yeh I have a cat. At least that one likes me. Nothing worse for a man than having an angry pussy out to get you.

That will be the reason. It smells it on you. Not sure what you could do other than have a whole separate wardrobe for when you see the cat lol

I wore an England shirt the time it scratched my leg, could it possibly be a Scotland fan?

I try to be nice with it and I even got one of those little cat stick treats as a peace offering but it wasn't having any of it. I threw it on the ground in annoyance and came back like an hour later and it was gone. It better not have took it.

Every cat or cat like thing in the universe. So that rules all civilised countries and Australia out. Have we found Atlantis yet?

Maybe try taking your cat around with you, make it jealous. "My pussy's bigger than you!"

I would but my cat is the total definition of a pussy. What if I got a big ass dog to boss it about?

Oh definitely. It's possibly the smell of your cat on you, or perhaps it sees you as a dominant figure (seriously) and it feels threatened by you. Cats are extremely territorial. My cat despises my older brother and attacks him every time he comes round to the house. My brother has his own cat so we reckon that's the main reason; but my cat is vicious to most outsiders (and sometimes us too) - the vet told us she was a very dominant female.

Are you trying to say I am not domineering enough!

Good advice thank you very much

Assert your authority over the cat nah like cats sometimes see someone as a threat to their dominance, so you're clearly more intimidating than anyone else it comes into contact with! Probably a combination of the smell of your cat and you yourself making it feel threatened!
