I disagree. Some people only need to be conversing with someone on and off in a social situation for a few hours for inflexions to be picked up.
For example, someone from the south can inadvertently pronounce a word like 'cup' as 'coop' (forgive the lack of phonemes to demonstrate actual pronunciation more accurately!) if they've been hanging out with someone from the north. I've seen/heard this happen many times.
As I said, not everyone is this impressionable but it's more frequent than you may think.
