So what about earlier when Hazel sat beside Gina and Gina said "I don't sit with peasants"? That was a direct insult, no mistaking 'tone' there.
Gina had been riling Hazel all day, giving her the most electric shocks, telling to 'run faster' etc.
I liked Gina better than Hazel until I saw Gina's disgusting animosity - now I loathe Gina.
So to say Hazel's 'tone' was at fault is to say she should suck it all up and take whatever humiliation Gina throws at her without retaliating. Pretty impossible. I think she's done well not to deck her, never mind speak to her in a tone of voice.
