I think when someone had been speaking like that for so long it becomes "normal" for them. In times of stress however the original accent may come through.

Let's hope then that he drops the silly accent because listening to people speaking like that simply does my head in. I think schools should be stamping it out along with words like "innit" and "are you joking me", terrible phrases.
