I've noticed this too.

They just stare intently for minutes on end even though there's nothing tangible there. Weird.

I was younger than that.. but it's not about age, you should know it anyway, it's one of the deadliest natural disasters in history and happened so recently. It's like not knowing about 9/11

Just to add I think the 2 most recent disasters following the 2004 tsunami was hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the tsunami in Japan in 2011.
Those two stick in my memory.
