I don't think anyone here actually thinks of this as a forum any more. It's a community with 30 or 40 members that have been talking to each other for years, with new people coming in as others leave. Every time I come back here after one of my sabbaticals I know exactly who will be posting and where. There will be about 5 members that I've never heard of before, and a few old ones who have either been permabanned or have stopped posting - but the core group always remains. This is what this site has survived off of. No one here even gives a shit about Big Brother any more, they just like to talk to each other. This such a good place to visit because it's basically just discussing stuff with your friends, but that's also what causes the overall inactivity. New members find it hard to merge into groups that were formed 3 years ago and so they don't bother with it. They stay in the Big Brother section until it's over, and then they fuck off. That's if they even notice the other sections exist. The only new members that ever stay permanently are the ones that stumble upon the chat threads and then have enough time, energy and personality to become friends with people. You end up having only a handful of new members every year, and with the growing shitness of Big Brother I can only imagine that number will go down. You simply cannot have a community as small and close-knit as this one without the forum being pretty inactive. No-one here wants 10,000 members flinging shit at each other 24/7 without actually building relationships, if they did they'd go to one of the many places that can offer that. There is still a need for new members to come in just so that there are more people to discuss different things with, but a Big Brother forum will only attract Big Brother fans. You aren't going to get a huge amount of new members that are well-read and can discuss any topic with wit and intelligence because there are very few legitimately intelligent people that like Big Brother, and so it becomes hard to discuss anything other than the show on here. Outside of that section you'll either be discussing things with the same people all the time or not discussing anything. Because the user base is small, there is less diversity in the topics you can discuss, and so if you don't like Big Brother you are left with very little to do.

At the end of the day this place is a community and communities have to be large and diverse if you want to have continuous activity and the ability to discuss different things with different people. The only way this site could still be the same basic site but with more discussion going on is if the existing members post more, but after you've known each other for a few years you use different mediums of communicating. Everyone Skypes each other, everyone fucks around on whatever the latest chat site is etc. When people do post on here it's usually in the chat thread/s (I don't know if there are still two). All this causes groups to form and that causes my original point, that new members find it hard to come into the fold.

The only other solution is completely rebranding the site.

..I think the thing with the chat threads is that they don’t exist as they used to anymore ...I agree so far as newer members are concerned, it’s always been hard to ‘break in’ to them because the main people who used them were so familiar with each other that it’s quite a thing to just go in and say hey, ..I guess you could say that they were always ‘cliquey’ and the hardest part of the forum to feel a part of...I think from that respect, it’s much easier to join in now because they’re a little more ‘open’....but I think part of the reason for that is that they’re generally much less busy, so for anyone new trying to join in, there might not be anyone to join in with, it’s a bit of a catch 22...the ‘core’ of the chat threads just aren’t there so much anymore and that’s for different reasons, people just naturally move on/away from TiBB..I’m not sure we actually need them anymore tbh...so far as the rest of the forum is concerned, it’s fairly much the same only not nearly so active, which does I think mean that if there are any personality clashes, which obviously there will be, there isn’t the opportunity so much to just ignore people etc because there aren’t the volume/variety of threads to do that, like there used to be as it’s all become so much smaller..maybe that should make it feel more of a community ..(in theory..)..but it’s often more that ‘irritations’ become more obvious and separate groups, rather than everyone feeling more ‘together’....

..anyway, it’s far too early in the morning to make this sort of post, so I’m not sure it even makes sense to me, let alone anyone else....
