Always been a bit jealous of people who have a close relationship with their grandparents, sadly all of mine have been dead for quite some time so I've never known that kind of relationship. What is/was your relationship with your grandparents like?

I'm very close to my Mom's parents. Get on really well with my Dad's father but I don't like my Dad's Mom, can't stand her and I've never called her my Nan.

I was really close to my grandma. I dont remember either grandad much tbh. And my gran really disliked me from being very young, but she was really up herself anyway and didnt seem to like many people so I wasn't too concerned.

I loved my paternal Nana, never met paternal grandad as he died before I was born.
My maternal grandad was quite an aloof person, did not know him very well really. Maternal grandmother died before I was born. |

Both my grandad's died before I was born though my grandma's are both still alive, probably only see them once a year but they're alright I suppose, just your typical old women
Did have a great grandad alive for a while when I was younger, ended up living till he was 107 I think, didn't get too know him that well though |

one side lives in yorskhire, my grandma and granddad, and my other grandma lives in lincolnshire (her husband/my grandad died before I was born), so rarely see either, get on with them really well though, even though all of them haven't got long to live left. I'd say within the next few months for my grandma and grandad which sounds a bit morbid but one is 95 and the other is approaching her 90s. My grandad especially who has cancer practically everywhere now and rarely eats
my other grandma has had heart problems and we thought she was going to die but she had an operation which has saved her quite a bit and she's more healthy now Last edited by King Gizzard; 09-12-2013 at 05:28 PM. |

Well the NHS killed my Grandad when I was 6, I get on quite well with my Nan apart from the cringey Phone calls on Birthdays and Christmas time.
And my Dad's side of the family I haven't seen in years because my Dad fell out with them, but I do know that my Grandad on that side passed away due to a heart attack I think it was.

My dads mum died 7 years ago and was a typical northern grandma, a real matriarch and head of the family. She always had an apron on, sang constantly and told the funniest stories. Amazing lady. My dads dad is 96 and still alive, he's not in the best of health at the moment but he's fighting back. He was very quiet when we were kids and never said much...but always slipped us money or sweets.
My mums dad was ace....a real mans man, he smoked fags and went to the pub every night. He brought my mum up on his own and adored her and us. He always came at Christmas and Easter and the smell of his smoke made me feel christmas was coming. I miss him..... My mums mum is still alive and kicking but my relationship with her is a bit weird. We didn't see much of her when we growing up and my mum didn't see her from age 9 till she was21 but now she is very demanding and it annoys me that my mum panders to her....but she is a nice lady, she just wasn't a fantastic grandma when we were younger. Having said that she is great with her great grandchildren so I give her that

Dad's dad was born in 1900 at died in 1967 at the age of 67, eleven years before i was born (1978), Dad's mam died in 1980, I have no memory of her.
Mam's Mam died in 1983, i remember her but was five when she died, I remember the day she died, I made my Grandad cry because i asked him where Grandma was. Mam's Dad I was very close to, he used to take me to the rugby and the seaside and i would sleep at his house regularly, he died in 1993. |

They're all dead now, I would have been closer to my moms parents, unfortunately my grand dad died when I was 7 or 8 but I still remember him looking after me and my brothers and him telling me the names of all the plants and flowers in his garden.
My kids are very close to my mother which I love

My grandad (Mums dad) is an amazing, hilarious person. He's only just turned 71 but he still likes to dance to music he hears on the TV. My grandma (his wife) died when I was 11 and it took him years to get over the death, but now he has met someone and as annoying as she is, he's happy so thats all i care about. I was very close with my grandma. She was very ill before she died (she was an alcoholic) and told me I was her favourite. I felt horrible, I didn't like being told she prefered my over my sisters. But it was one of the last things she said to me and I understand she was ill.
My dads mum suffered a brain aneurysm when I was younger and she's not the same person now. I don't think there's much more to add to that. She wasn't together with my dads dad when I was born and he doesn't really care about us anyway. I havent seen or heard from him in just about 10 years.
