I hardly think laying by the bedroom door is going to shield Jim from the acting up and giggling. He'd have been better off getting into bed and pulling the duvet over his head. Only that wouldn't have had the same effect as laying on the floor by the draughty door with no pillow or duvet.

Yes. Jim was going to get into the bed with Luisa when she started squealing and calling him the grim reaper. Getting under a duvet and pulling it over his head isn't exactly going to help when she's under the same duvet.
