I agree the South East has the highest standard of living in the UK, house prices are higher, wages are higher. People can afford to go on 2 or 3 foreign holidays per year, people have 2 or more vehicles. People in the South East can afford to eat out at least twice a week at proper restaurants (Not McDonalds). People really do have a better life in the South East.............or do they ???
House prices are higher but houses are tiny as there is no land to build on, in Central London you need a million punds to buy a half decent family home, flats are routinuely sold in excess of 500K. if you rent you are fleeced by unscrupulous landlords and have no real security. Nobody talks to anyone in the south, not very friendly (most neighbours don't even speak english).
People need to work all hours in the day to make ends meet and both partners need to work and then pay out extortionate amounts of money for childcare. The roads are pretty much block most of the time so you cant really go anywhere quickly, the Airports are shocking (in some instances flying time for a long haul flight is actually shorter than the time it takes to get to and from the Airport) you cannot plan a road trip because chances are you will be stuck in roadworks for 6 hours or some other hold up.
Going into Central London is a joke with Congestion charges and traffic cameras everywhere (make one wrong turning and its a £60 fine). parking a nightmare and over zealous traffic wardens will clamp your car quicker than you can imagine should you be 10 seconds late back from your business.
You have to queue for everything, the light and air pollution is stifling, you pay over the odds for everything yet we are told London's the place to be.
Can't afford London then commute into London....great so now pay £6,000 a year to stand in a cold smelly train compartment assuming of course the trains or underground are not on strike....Yea real good value for money.
It's all lie of course living in London or the South east may be the highest standard of living, BUT it's by far the lowest quality of life.......
