Default Dilemma/alibi...

..I might have done this one before but hey ho...

You have a wonderful daughter. She is 8 years old and has always been a happy outgoing child. But a while ago something terrible happened, she was raped. You are quite sure that the person who raped her is your neighbour. Your daughter is so traumatized she has stopped speaking, but she in other ways been able to convince you that he is the one. Unfortunately not enough evidence can be found to convict him.

You try to put your life back together. You move to another house and try to help your daughter in any way you can, but it is clear that the experience has ruined her life and that of your family.

One evening you have taken your partner out to dinner at a restaurant when you spot your former neighbour at another table. He is eating alone and looks unhappy. You quickly finish eating and leave. The next day you find out that your former neighbour's wife has been murdered. Enough evidence to convict him of the murder is soon found, and at first you are very happy, finally his will get what he deserves.

But then you remember that you saw him in the restaurant at the time of the murder. you know he did not murder his wife. Maybe he paid someone else to do it…?.. You remember that the police said that it had been made it look like a burglary, maybe it was…

You sit down to think. If you keep quiet he will be convicted for the murder, and the real murderer will go free If you give him an alibi, he will go free, but you can’t be sure the real murderer will be found... What do you do?

No dilemma for me.
If he raped my daughter, and we knew beyond any doubt, he would be in no fit state to murder anyone.

I wouldn't have it in me to give him an alibi, I wouldn't say anything and if he was punished for the murder I'd take that as him being indirectly punished for raping my daughter; he's still a criminal who deserves to be punished whether he murdered his wife or not.

I would give him an alibi, so I could have some one on one time with him,

I would cut off his toe's and fingers slowly then his ears nose and tongue, then put a hot poker in his eyes, anyway you get the message.

I'd keep quiet without hesitation. Karma's a bitch.

By the time I got to the restaurant, the neighbour would already have been dead for a while.

I know it's not really in the spirit of the dilemma to pick holes in it lol, but surely if he is out eating in a restaurant there are any number of people besides myself who could corroborate that he was there and not at home murdering his missus

Well firstly if he was in the restaurant at the time of his wifes murder, he would have ordered his meal and therefore he would be remembered by likely someone or a fair few others at the restuarant as to being there at that time.

So in effect he has his own alibi so would need to use it.

After raping an 8 year old child, and getting away with that then if by some chance he got convicted of murdering his wife, then in effect some jumbled up way of justice has been done anyway to him in the end.

However, he would after further investigation likely have that alibi of being in the restuarant at the time of the murder uncovered so wouldn't in the end likely get convicted of the murder.

Maybe he's no longer in the restaurant, he was having a pizza and got the rest of it boxed up so he was sitting on a bench outside eating the rest of his pizza and therefore you were the only person to see him. Look at me patching up holes.
