I don't agree with getting so messed up on alcohol that you can't look after yourself, get home etc but a lot of people do it every week so even though I still think like I posted previously that there are dangers involved in volunteering for this king of thing, it still is a pretty good idea to help people that are worse for wear.
I dont really think the girls that you are alluding too will be happy wearing flip flops when they are pissed and coming out of a club nor do I think that an untrained "street christian" should be trying to deal with mortally drunk men - that is a job for a pro and not some do-gooder.

Well I think you are wrong in those thoughts I'm afraid, and I'm pretty sure a lot of girls would be grateful for those flip flops rather than stumble home drunk in bare feet walking on who knows what.

And referring to them as untrained street Christians is ridiculous, they are probably shown how to deal with the more common scenarios before going out onto the street and you don't have to be a Christian to volunteer as I'm sure you are perfectly aware since it's already been pointed out in the thread.

Yes and as I pointed out you dont have to be christian to go to church but when you are there you will not be surprised to find that its a wee teeny bit religious

The amount of girls who walk home in bare feet amid the vomit and broken glass of you and Zee's imaginary city must be minuscule (I have only seen this in films)

and you say they are shown how to deal with the common scenarios? by who - a priest, members of the guild, the head of Beavers?

My point is that in principle it sounds good but in practice its just a token gesture and the morality is highly suspect.

and the name stinks as L said

The figures since these Street Angel volunteers have started render your argument invalid.

The Halifax Street Angels for example have been running since 2005, they provide training, including first aid.

And tons of girls walk home barefoot at the weekend whether you choose to believe it or not.

If you can tell me how many converts they have achieved I may acquiesce slightly but telling me they have done some first aid in a draughty church hall like dads army did aint gonna cut it.

Many girls I know take flat shoes in their handbags with them on nights out to change into at the end of the night. Girls wear high heels to look good, not for comfort - when you're not so steady on your feet, you need comfortable shoes to walk in. Clearly you don't see the point in the concept but many others have been able to point out the benefits of having such a team. There are no disadvantages.

No they have not. No one can tell me how they identify people to help apart from perchance seeing a drunk Geordie girl in bare feet.

I've already told you. Somebody who is so drunk they can't stand. That's the level of drunk they'd be looking to help in the first instance. They see someone who's so drunk that they can't walk themselves into a taxi or tell the taxi driver where they're going and go and help that person home. There is nothing difficult to comprehend about that. There is no system for deciding who does and doesn't need help, they're just going off of their instincts and looking around to see who's a cause for concern. With things like the flip flops, they'd be standing near clubs handing them out to girls who aren't even necessarily that drunk but are grateful for the flat shoes to walk in.

So they are targeting mortally drunk men who cannot stand who would otherwise die and barefoot geordies.
