There are plenty (almost too many) books in the crime fiction genre, Karin Slaughter as previously mentioned is good, but I found her books very formulaic and once you've read one you've read them all.

I would highly recommend getting a Kindle if you enjoy reading, a hell of a lot of books are completely free, and if you use Amazon a lot you can sign up to prime, so along with the free delivery on stuff you get access to the lenders library.

I've not long finished Hostile Witness #1 which was free and was really good. The Millennium Trilogy (Girl with the dragon tattoo) is also very good.

If you like a bit of historical fiction mixed in with crime, check out the Shardlake books by CJ Sansom.
