I don't think 'sucked' would be the right word to use in my opinion.

He strikes me as a person who doesn't like being seen as unpopular or as an outcast, so I don't agree with the others being the reason for why he's in that certain group now. It's all on him.

Obviously is not a terrible thing, you can't help you click with.
