I think its pretty obvious. he thinks he is gods gift. she is gorgeous and smart and isn't tying to shag his leg. which makes him feel like she is above him and he hates that.
the fact she nominated him is another bruise to his enflated ego.
basically he is used to dumb women falling at his feet. a smart one who doesn't want him thats a knife to his ego balloon
