Well I'm no child psychologist but I am a parent, you can tell a child something is wrong till you're blue in the face.. but when their hero does something right or wrong they will still attempt to emulate their behaviour.

I don't think it's the parents fault. I don't think it's anybodies fault. It's just a 7 year old emulating something they saw on telly. Wrestling is a good example, I broke my nose at 10 from being drop kicked in the face nobody was really to blame for that and that actually involved an injury - it wasn't done to intentionally hurt me we were kids messing about. It's a complete non-story to me. Kids being kids.

Obviously now it's the parents job to teach him he did wrong, but I don't know how the parent was supposed to predict he would do that.

Yes I have no problem with so called violent games for kids. I grew up with guns, grenades, knives, war games etc and so far I have committed no murders ad neither of my pals. I decide what my brats play and watch and not some group of censors who are guided by blame and legal issues/lawyers

Just seems like playground frollicks to me, typical kids stuff really impersonating things their favourite players do for fun, it's a bit of a silly thing for him to have done but that's how kids learn a lot of the time. Agree with Annie that there's no need to cry bad parenting every time a little kid puts his toe slightly out of line

...hmmm, I just don't see it as emulating something that is 'typical' to a sport though or justifying it because of what Soarez does..a wrestler wrestles...a footballer doesn't typically bite because on any level, biting is not 'normal' or acceptable behaviour beyond a child teething and whether there was a fault with the parents or not I can't see anything but an exclusion being the result of what he did...if he's facing a possible permanent one then this can't be the only incident and there must be other behaviour problems which have probably been on going, hence the final warning...

..the fault that I do see with the parents is that they seem to be looking more at 'blame' than addressing the behaviour issues of their child....

Did eminem or kurt do those things on TV when you were 7? Wow what terrible parents letting you watch that

It isn't typical to footballers but Suarez is this kids hero. He always pretends to be him. It's been all over the news, papers, internet etc what Suarez has done so it would be easy for the child to emulate. As you said in an earlier post, it's in the Sun and so not the most reliable if media outlets anyway and so it doesn't explain what kind if expulsion he has been threatened with. I find it hard to lay blame on the parents for his actions really. They are guilty of putting it in the public domain but how many kids are told things are wrong by their parents but do it anyway. I was told time and time again not to throw stones in the garden, punished, threatened etc but I still did it. My parents were bloody fantastic but it was they couldn't watch me all the time. Kids are wilful and disobedient at times....they learn by mistakes and teachings from grown ups...I'm sure after this the child will hopefully have learned a very tough lesson.

..the thing is Annie, I’m only talking about biting specifically and not any other type of behaviour or messing around or fighting or anything.. and it’s something that a child shouldn’t be doing beyond being a toddler when it can in some children be a ‘phase’ but something that they don’t carry on doing and 7yrs old is a big concern for a chid to be biting which is not in any way ‘typical’ for someone his age..it’s something we take very seriously in schools and because we’re advised to and I’ve only ever known one child who ‘bit’...I’m also guessing and it’s just because the article said that he had his last warning...(and I know the Sun isn’t credible so how much of this is accurate I don’t know..) that this isn’t the first time he’s either hurt or indeed before bit other children and maybe has some serious behaviour issues...I don’t necessarily assume his parents are responsible for those at all because I know how hard parents try but some issues are beyond their control but I do think that by laying blame on a football player or assuming that there is any bearing with that is not where their focus should be but on their child who is doing this and may be about to be excluded from primary school...for their son they really should be working with the school and not themselves laying blame or not understanding why the school is concerned....

I think we should impose sanctions on Uruguay. We have to protect the children in the playground from harmful foreign influences. I heard that Uruguay have some secret WMDs. Wouldn't surprise me and makes me nervous. They could devastate the Falkland Islands if given the chance.

There's nothing at all to suggest he has issues, and nobody is saying the school weren't right to punish him. The parents have stated he was aware that the behaviour was wrong and they're not condoning his actions.. The article highlights why he bit, the reasoning behind his action as explained by the boy at the time, therefore it does have a bearing here.
The school has a right to be concerned naturally but also a duty to work with the parents to educate the lad into accepting that this behaviour even by your favourite 'sportsperson' is wrong.

...’a final warning’ would indicate that there have been other issues with the child so I think it’s reasonable to assume there have been other incidents of behavioural issues...and I know the article has given their reasons for him biting but I don’t really hold any credibility with The Sun and neither would I really assume the word of a 7yr old child because I wouldn’t know whether he did actually say that or in what circumstances etc..whether it was ‘suggested’ to him..none of that I could possibly know so I’m not going to assume that he did emulate anyone...the only thing with this that I do know is that particular school and its policies so I’m fairly certain that a permanent exclusion wouldn’t have been ‘warned’ on this one singular incident..only a very short one of a day probably...

..parents have a great responsibility to work with the school with things like this as well and laying blame and seeking publicity in a National newspaper would probably not be the best way and for that they are responsible but not necessarily for their son’s behaviour though..biting is wrong/physically hurting another child (or adult) in any way is wrong but the reasons that biting is of a particular concern in older children is that, with other behaviour issues/anger issues etc it can be an indication of Autism as autistic children have a lack of sensual awareness...I don’t know if this is the case with this child at all and have no information more than anyone else has from reading this story and the little information we’re given and how much of it is ‘fact’...so I’m only commenting on what we’ve been told which is the same for everyone and giving my thoughts on it....if it were with this child though that any type of behavioural disorder had been looked at or was being looked at in terms of a diagnosis and the school’s resources had been exhausted and with little progress to the child then a permanent exclusion would be the only thing because a mainstream school may not be the best thing for the child...one thing that really annoys me though and a bugbear of mine.. which is a bit off topic I know... is how long a child with behavioural/anger problems etc can have to wait to be diagnosed when school/parents are screaming at the ‘experts’ that this is not just a ‘naughty child or a phase’...and how stressful and frustrating that is to everyone involved including the child....

So the kid saw this on TV and copied it, wrong I know but not serious enough to be expelled over.

Usual over-reaction where has the common sense gone ?
