That is true. But with Ashleigh she suppresses her real feelings to Helen's face and vents behind her back. That's not being mature about it, that's avoiding telling Helen what's what to her face which builds up inside her causing her to pick at every little thing with Danielle because the bitterness is eating away at her.
An astute, mature and intelligent person wouldn't behave like either of them and would rise about the pettiness. Neither do. One has a drink which causes her to vent all of her thoughts and frustrations straight into people's face, one lets it build up to the point where she can't think of anything else to whinge about in the bedroom with their only friend.
So I don't think everyone who avoids confrontation is a wimp, those people tend to let it go and move on. Ashleigh doesn't, she's scared of facing things head on.
