I'd actually say Kim is very naive, she completely misjudged the entire Steven situation and how that developed. You can tell after the major boos they got she was completely taken by surprise.

It's just when she becomes self aware, instead of successfully putting a front on, she shuts down and doesn't show anything.

i agree she misjudged it at first, but i think she caught on, and that's why she left.
