All in all. Channel 5 ratings are more consistent. The below figures are in officials.
CHANNEL 4: BIG BROTHER 1 - 4.5M O BIG BROTHER 2 - 4.5M O BIG BROTHER 3 - 5.8M + 700K BIG BROTHER 4 - 4.6M - 1.2M BIG BROTHER 5 - 5.1M + 500K BIG BROTHER 6 - 4.6M - 500K BIG BROTHER 7 - 4.7M + 100K BIG BROTHER 8 - 3.9M - 800K BIG BROTHER 9 - 3.6M - 300K BIG BROTHER 10 - 2.5M - 1.1M BIG BROTHER 11 - 3.0M + 500K AVERAGE CHANNEL BIG BROTHER DIFFERENCE - 633,000 VIEWERS CHANNEL 5: BIG BROTHER 12 - 1.6M O BIG BROTHER 13 - 1.6M O BIG BROTHER 14 - 1.9M + 300K BIG BROTHER 15 - 1.58M (CURRENT) - 300K AVERAGE CHANNEL BIG BROTHER DIFFERENCE - 300,000 VIEWERS It's fair to say that Big Brother has been on Channel 5 for a shorter amount of time.. but nonetheless if you consider any four series of Big Brother from Channel 4 and their statistics, it's clear that Channel 5 is much more stable in terms of viewership.. and having hit 1.6M nearly 3 times.. it's clearly that that is the audience's main amount.. with many opting to view in and out of each day when wanted.. so I believe around 1.7-1.8M are still clearly very much interested in the show.. in terms of cancellation.. imagine Channel 5 completely removing that figure.. I'll be honest.. the only reason I watch other C5 shows is due to the fact they're on before or after or are advertised around Big Brother.. it wasn't until 2011 that where I live couldn't even receive the channel.. and now.. so many people I know still continue to watch it! Hopefully this post will provide stability to anyones issue's with ratings.. I'm sure producers and the big bosses are happy that the viewing figures are not too dramatic. Again.. I should also point out they take into consideration all 3 series of the show over the year.. including the 2 CBBs to decide whether a renewal is given a green light or not. They certainly would NEVER consider cancelling the civilian show, opting only to show CBB.. and this has been stated by many of those in charge of programming commission over the 3 years it's been on Channel 5. Again.. hopefully this is reassuring to any cynics out there..! Now.. seeing as I've noted about all 3 series amounting to average viewing figures.. let's take a look at the combined average for both BB and CBB together. (Note, for Channel 4 I have excluded spin off's such as Teen Big Brother and Big Brother Panto as these are not as relatable to the series on Channel 5. Therefore this would provide unfair figures. CHANNEL 4 (average + based on the year - Jan - Dec) BB1 = 4.5M O BB2 + CBB1 = 4.8M + 300K BB3 + CBB2 = 5.1M + 300K BB4 = 4.6M - 500K BB5 = 5.1M + 500K CBB3 + BB6 = 4.45M - 650K CBB4 + BB7 = 4.8M + 350K CBB5 + BB8 = 4.25M - 550K BB9 = 3.6M - 650K CBB6 + BB10 = 2.9M - 700K CBB7 + BB11 + UBB = 3.25M + 350K CHANNEL 5 (same rules apply) CBB8 + BB12 = 2.2M O CBB9 + BB13 + CBB10 = 2.1M - 100K CBB11 + BB14 + CBB12 = 2.3M + 200K CBB13 + BB15 = 2.35M + 50K NOW HOPEFULLY THIS MAKES SOME SENSE TO YOU LOT.. I LOOK AT IT AND IT MAKES ME WEAK! TOO MANY NUMBERS! I spent a lot of time trying to justify the show's ratings.. so hopefully this'll help those who are doubtful of the show's existence. So.. it's clear to see that Summer CBB rectifies the lower viewing figures of regular BB.. as on Channel 5.. the previous 5 series have enabled overall viewing figures of Big Brother each year to increase. And with the coming of Summer CBB right around the corner, the present 2.35M rating can only increase! Therefore to C5 bosses and the show's producers this must account for something very good, particualrly when considered that it is only 550K away from Channel 4's lowest rated year.. 5 years ago!
