Yeah I really am in two minds about whether it was spitefulness or drunkenness

As other posters have pointed out, she was really emotional with Christopher too, and she never shows emotion to anyone really. It could have been drink, mixed with homesickness, mixed with happiness about the outcome of the trial task.
And yes, whether you're a Helen fan or not, she does come across as terribly jealous. Her DR rant the other day about Ashleigh's reaction when she gets picked for all the good stuff oozed jealousy. Not sure what Helen's problem is with Ashleigh saying "thank you" in a soft voice?
On the other hand, I don't think Ashleigh is jealous of Helen, but is possibly bitter that a lot of people in the house have had a positive opinion on her and have allowed her to try to rule over the house.
