2 stick out for me at the moment.

1) x-men last stand: Cyclops

Here you have the brave, intelligent second in command of the x-men having the square root of ***** all to do in the previous two films. The finale is obviously his chance to shine right?

NOOO!

Killed off in the first half hour. Gone. Wiped out from the films existence so the rest of the film can once again concentrate on the chronicles of Wolverine, the most overused x-men character to grace existence. Then they kill Xavier as well so make that a double strike.

2) Alien 3 - Hicks & Newt

Now I know there were issues with getting Michael Biehn on board for this 3rd film but that still doesn't stop me being disappointed as sh*t when these two characters find themselves impaled in the prologue of the film without any appearance at all (other than a lovely autopsy scene for the girl).

All that character work in Aliens gone in the opening scene. Who would wanna hang around Ripley? Everyone she ever gets close enough to gets whacked by the aliens or ends up on the wrong side of a script page.

Newt's death was inevitable. Carrie Henn was too old to reprise the role so she was never going to be in part 3 without a recast and I don't know where they could have taken the character.

And we all know what came after that..

my sister was 9 when it came out and saw it in the cinema... she cried the whole way home and when she got in the door, i thought she had like fallen out with her friend or something

Which was pretty much the only thing left after two well established and universally liked characters were snuffed out before the opening credits rolled.
