Umm, this is a bit innacurate. Free-thinking Humans are capable of understanding personal mortality from adolescence onwards, around the age of 13. Most from that age do understand that, one day, they will die.
What follows that is around 10 years of feeling "invulnerable" (rather than immortal) - i.e. "Yeah that seems dangerous... for most people but I AM A NINJA!!" or "Yeah I get that smoking causes cancer and people die, but I'm young and it won't affect me until I'm old and I don't care about that". A sort of "live fast, die young" mentality based on enjoyment and exploration. It's actually an essential developmental stage - people who are encouraged (or forced) to skip it often end up very nervous / anxious adults.
Either way, educated, intelligent individuals are certainly capable of thinking critically about their health and mortality from the mid 20's onwards. 30 is a bit of a stretch. I don't think there are many 26 - 29 year olds still feeling invincible.
