Ok ok I got another one. A scientist in Victorian England invents a time machine in order to answer questions about the universe and ends up travelling thousands of years into the future where warlike mankind destroyed itself and as a result there now existed two distinct branches of humanity. One was timid and pale and lived on the surface in utter ignorance of the world around them and underground lived the other, a cannibalistic regime of aggressive sunlight fearing people who took the others as a food source. The main protagonist must fix his time machine and also solve the quandary of the relationship between the two castes of humanity and save the pale people from their fate.
