Default Poisonous smog

Toxic: Smog will cover the UK
Experts have revealed the areas most likely to be affected by the toxic smog set to sweep the nation.

And medics have warned it could put thousands of ill and vulnerable Brits’ health at risk.

Doncaster and the surrounding areas will be the worst affected with a level 9, high warning.

Nottingham, Loughborough, South Wales, Bristol and most of Devon and Cornwall, along with Birmingham, Coventry and Leicester will also be covered by the massive cloud of deadly smog.

People in Northern Ireland, mid-Wales, London and the South East, the East Midlands, the North and North East, Northumberland and mid-Lothian in Scotland will also be seriously affected.

Pollution has already been high and it is expected to reach dangerous levels by mid-morning tomorrow, with the fog arriving from the Continent.

If the fog is floating over from overseas then how is it Doncaster is the worst affected?

'Oil giant Total invests in fracking exploration in the UK, by taking a share in a licence in the Midlands currently operated by a US firm.
The company has taken a 40 per cent share in two gas exploration licences for drilling in the Gainsborough Trough, in an area between Doncaster and Lincoln.'

For kicks, I replaced every mention of "smog" or "fog" in the OP with the word "Muslims". The effect is brilliant. It reads like 70% of serious debates threads .

Probably an inane question, but I will ask it anyway. Could this smog affect wildlife and pets also?

I wouldn't worry too much. It's all exaggerated by the media, I think wildlife and pets will be fine.

No it isn't.

'Experts have warned that the polluted air could cause fatal asthma attacks and have advised the elderly and those with health problems to be cautious.

Increased levels of toxic gases, such as nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide, mean there is a lower concentration of oxygen in the air breathed, said Professor Liz Bentley, Chief Executive of the Royal Meteorological Society.'

It just arrived in Leeds how nice :/

Going for "Immigration" instead of "pollution" here also works .

Although I suspect the terms may be interchangeable for many...
