Answering the thread, I went on dates I didn't know were dates, I went on real dates where he asked me out, and I went out with guys where I thought it was a date and they didn't.

I think dating in general is messy and awkward at the beginning. It isn't until you know someone outside of those initial moments that it becomes easy.
