I disagree Miranda. I don't think he did it to gain votes, because the public are more likely to see what he did in a negative light - just like you have. I think it was a combination of quite a few things that made him nom Austin. I think he was angry at him because he had spoken to Austin as a mate about his loutish behaviour and Austin disregarded him. Jenna and Austin also ganged up on him on two occasions giving him the third degree and yelling at him and not listening to what he was saying. You could see he was fuming but as always he held it inside and stayed composed. They had also been talking behind his back.

Another thing is, he has to give genuine reasons for nominating, and he said he didn't have anything to say about the other HM's that he wouldn't have to make up. Last but not least, who is to say that he isn't genuinely principled about someone insulting an elderly woman? He was brought up by his grandparents and I think he has some quite old fashioned (for nowadays) views which to me are admirable.
