Default Political ideologies between socialism & social democracy?

I'm trying to find an ideology that best describes my beliefs.. but I'm not too sure if there is one that is accurate enough?

I think that socialism is possibly just slightly too left for me, whereas social democracy is too centrist. Is there anything in-between that?

I used the descriptor 'progressive' before, but I've found that it is actually far too broad and there are even right-wing parties describing themselves as that.

Nice try. This is a serious question though, I steer more towards socialism than social democracy if that helps?

Communist? just a guess... the left is not my area of expertise, Josh. You may not have noticed :-)

i think its difficult to pigeon hole anyone really. So much of our politics is shaped by our specific experiences. I can be off the chart left or right depending on the specific issue so I will never be 100% content with any political party

So very well put BitOnTheSlide - I am the same. I support Farage because his policies regarding immigration and the EU are the closest to mine, but I do have regard for some Tory policies and Labour ones - though not many.

Why are you so interested in politics Josh? The reason I ask is because my brother is the same age as you (you're 14, right?) and he couldn't care less about politics so i'm just wondering why these discussions appeal to you (i'm genuinely asking btw, not being a dick or anything)

socialism and capitalism have failed this country, with high overspending, high inflation, and making the poor poorer, we are stuck in a loop hole, greece is a failed state because of socialism, america's capitalism has made job losses to china, for the greed of profit.

Haha no I don't think I'm a communist.. if this wasn't sarcastic (because I can't tell), communist would be far-left.

It just encompasses a lot of things I care about - solving inequality, injustice.. rights of minorities and tackling racism/religious discrimination.

I wouldn't say there is anything inbetween really: both are ideologies which encompass quite a broad church of people and can often meet or even overlap. Social democracy grew out of the socialist movement after all.

I personally don't see much point in identifying as anything whilst you're so young. I used to think very similarly to you, but I left school, got a job (many different jobs) and now I don't identify as anything on a political scale. It's hard to say you're 100% anything, when everyone has different opinions about politics. Unless there's a party where you agree with everything they say/do, then I wouldnt worry about it too much.

I agree with that, I was actually pretty hard right / pro "pure capitalism" up until age 21+, believe it or not.

I still didn't like the Tories, because let's face it, we all knew they were a bunch of soggy-biscuit-playing, animal-head-****ing, rugger bugger silver spoon scumbags looong before hashtag pig-gate... however, I probably would have voted for them back then. Shudder.

I believe that social democracy in Britain, in fact anywhere for that matter, is a disaster because its too authoritarian. If you can't satisfy the masses or you suppress the wealthy or the poor (as is presently happening with Tory government and would equally happen under New Labour), you are just another political party that is doomed to eventually fail.

Democratic Socialism is an interesting idea because its a democratic socialist alternative.

This is a snippet from wordpress https://liamchingliu.wordpress.com/2...tic-socialism/

The most ideal socialist approach has been democratic socialism, because it neither falls into the trap of authoritarian socialism that in the apparent quest to get rid of reactionaries gets rid of the working class it proclaims to advance. It also avoids the pitfalls of social democracy, that, while profits to the capitalist can be guaranteed, can remain an effective way of organizing the economy, but fails to do so, when the profit requirements are not met. In democratic socialism, the workers are required to take charge over the economy, and allocate society’s resources to the benefit of the greatest number of people.

Political ideology has a sociological field attached maybe if you decide what perspective you align more closely with then that will give you a clue?

Maybe just left of centre Josh. Not sure it has to be an anythingist as such.
I should imagine you will swing a little either way as you walk life's path.
I have yet to find a party that I could agree with over say 70%, and I find good and bad amongst all of them.
