Some may be bored or unhappy with their lives and so feel the need to make up a more interesting one and then some may do it for privacy reasons

Don't see the point of it myself and also don't know how they can be bothered with the effort of it.

Yeah, it's easy to pretend anything.

I could pretend I'm living it up in Portugal with my hot boyfriend in a fancy apartment but really I'm locked in a bedroom 23 hours a day whilst my scally husband is selling drugs.

I was going to say this myself it really helps watching shows like that to understand why people do things like that
some of them don't seem remorseful at all, where as others look ashamed by lying etc. so i guess it varies

Oh yeah there are definitely ones that do it just for the kicks and because they think it's funny to try and trick people, those ones I don't like, I can sort of understand people doing it for other reasons though.
