Default Does anyone else get insomnia?

This is my second night without sleeping, does anyone else ever get insomnia? How does it affect you? I get mood swings and I'm on an "up" at the moment lol so I need someone to entertain me

Unless you're all asleep

I don't like the idea of taking pills unless I really need too, and most of the time I sleep fine it's only every so often I get insomnia, so I don't think it's worth taking pills for really. I'd worry about becoming reliant on them

Oh god I'd hate that lol! Either I'm up all night or dead to the world, when I sleep I sleep well. Getting one hour then waking up would frustrate the hell out of me haha!

In the same vein as what I said about the pills though, I wouldn't want to actually do anything to MAKE me sleep coz it's not a serious problem to warrent risking becoming reliant on anything

If it's not a serious problem then something to help you when you're struggling isn't bad.

If you're struggling to sleep every single night then obviously constant pills or whisky isn't good and you'd need other help.

Yeah I see the logic... but I reject it (for no good reason lol). I don't know why, I think maybe I'm just used to it and I don't like the idea of changing my habits. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about my insomnia, I was just curious if other people on here get it. It has it's benefits too, like I never really realised before that there was all these other forums outside the big brother chat until I got click happy and it's keeping me entertained haha!

All my life, I have never needed much sleep, and even though I do sleep for longer now I'm older, it still only fluctuates between 3 to 4 hours maximum.

I do not take anything to help me sleep for longer for the same reasons as you; not sleeping for long is natural to me so does not bother me, and I prefer not to use drugs or drink.

I still work long hours when I do work, and for the most part it is heavy, tiring manual work, but even this does not result in me sleeping for more than 4 hours.

When I am working, if I have a 'time-limit', then I engineer it so that I have 'quiet' jobs to perform 'after hours, so to speak; painting for example, but I am lucky, that I am also a writer and avid reader, so my 'extra hours' of wakefullness are never wasted, even when I am not working, because it is during the 'early hours' when the rest of the world is sleeping that I write or read.

If you do not suffer from your abnormal sleep pattern, then do not worry. Use those 'extra' hours to do something useful, so that if you cannot develop a 'normal' sleep pattern, then at least you can ensure that you are never bored stiff during your insomnia.

Great post. I don't think I'd be able to function on a regular sleep pattern of 4 hours lol, when I don't have insonmnia I'm normally an 8 hour person. But everyone's body works differently.

Depression factors a lot into my sleep. If I'm in a bad place sleep comes so easy because its essentially an easy way to just let time pass without being in the moment.

When I'm not so down and not so up that's when it gets really really hard to sleep and really really hard to get up.

Sorry to hear about the depression bit Kyle mate. One thing, when you can't sleep come on here and we'll both read some of the stuff on SD - that'll send us both to the Land of Nod.

By the way - Do you know anything about my new avatar?

I used to have it really bad, I would go to sleep at maybe 4 or 5am and be awake again by 7 or 8am but I still functioned ok with it now though I sleep alright probably because I'm working long hours I do still wake up a few times during the night though.

I wouldn't ever take sleeping pills or anything like that.

Wow - At last, someone else like me. I always get the impression that some people think I'm telling porkies about my sleep pattern, but not so, I don't need much sleep.

I agree about steering clear of pills etc.

Insomnia is a mental health issue

You don't just go around saying "I was such an insomniac last night"

Not sleeping for two nights is nothing tbh

That's helpful, thanks

And it's a sleep disorder not a mental illness. At least be informed if you're going to troll

Margaret Thatcher used to sleep like 3am to 5am or something daft like that.

I knew you reminded me of someone.
