Very common depending on where you are. I used to live in Manchester and I'd see it every weekend, people getting turned away from some bars on canal street for being straight. It really bothered me but a lot of the gay guys would say it was a good thing because straight people shouldn't be there. I even worked at one of the bars briefly and the manager would always say he hated it when straight people came in and would be really snarky when serving them.

the same is true of bars that have regulars and prefer older demographic. If a bunch of young people dressed sexy showed up in their bar, they would be looked at strangely and treated like crap too. Bars and clubs tend to have a "culture" in them. and if someone upsets that or tries to change it then they react. Just like gentrification....
