Our village had a powercut last night but it's very common here and we always have candles and torches ready.

If you burnt witches in my village for energy the lights would never go out.

Sometimes a power cut can be a good thing. A good few years ago, it was a few weeks before Christmas in Scarborough and we were out for a quietish drink. We were in the 'Hole In The Wall' pub - a smallish intimate place which was quite packed, when the lights suddenly went out.

The power did not come back on so quickly, and the staff quickly dotted the place with oil lanterns and candles which lent real atmosphere to the Christmas decorations.

It was not long before the entire pub were singing one Christmas Carol after another and a kind of 'Blitz' spirit developed. The night ended with everyone in the pub shaking hands with each other/kissing cheeks and hugging.

It still remains a memorable night for me.

Me too. The wind's only got to blow hard and the lights go out.
