Yes that's true rubymoo. I remember we got a stocking with some nuts and tangerines (the first I saw was when I was 5 years old)a sixpence, a comic book annual and one toy. We used to go carol singing to earn a bit of money and at the end of the evening when my brothers had had enough, they used to sing

'Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat.
Please put a penny in the old man's hat.
If you haven't got a penny, a halfpenny will do,
if you haven't got a halpenny, then your window's going through'.
Then we used to run like a bat out of hell.
After my dad dies my poor mum had a hard time financially and the Salvation Army used to bring us presents at Christmas. I still contribute to them, because they do such marvellous work.
