I still can't believe Shabnam's abrupt departure.
It felt like her story was nowhere near over. Now we won't see her onscreen with Zainab. Last edited by Marsh.; 07-02-2016 at 04:39 PM. |

What is the need for Zainab now Shabnam's is gone? Tam can look after himself if she does return it will be a guest appearance

That makes no sense, Shabnam is older than Tam, she can also look after herself.. are you forgetting another child Masood and Zainab have together?

That's right. I've gone right off Whitney, though. I can't imagine how horrifying and soul-destroying it must be to be a victim of grooming but I hope they're not trying to excuse her having no conscience and stepping out of line on the basis of her past. |

Yeah, that was always a bug-bearer of mine. Kat used to have something unique in her original stint but I hated what Kirkwood did with her character, turning her into a selfish, cruel, eternally morose bitch who got a kick out of treating everyone around her like shit because she’s suffered in the past and that excuses any bad behavior because they’re just “damaged,” tragic heroines.
Ditto with Ronnie. TPTB seemed to think it was a good idea to turn her into a baby-snatching fruitcake because she’s “damaged.” I did always think there was something creepy and sinister about her relationship with Archie but I never for a second believed he was originally supposed to be a rapist. They probably cobbled it together at the last minute just to make it super okay for Stacey to clobber him to death with a bust. Not that anybody expects them to shrug off what happened to them or go on as if it never happened, of course. That sort of abuse is deeply traumatic and never leaves a person; it’ll always have some negative effect on your life. Not all abuse victims, though, go on to act like self-entitled brats, cheat, or swap their dead baby with someone else’s living one. God forbid they should show someone being able to channel that tragedy into something positive and act like a decent human being. What would have been really productive and refreshing is to have seen a girl who has been abused and used it as an incentive to make the most of her life and treat those around her well, perhaps study therapy in order to help other girls in that situation. Instead, we get females who give nothing yet expect everything and play the victim because it’s easier than facing up to the realities of life. They’ve more or less got a get-out-of-jail free card to let them treat those who care for them with as much disdain as they like because they have a “tragic past” that absolves them of any adult responsibility. Frankly, EastEnders’ portrayal of abused women is pretty damn offensive. Last edited by Redway; 07-02-2016 at 05:08 PM. |
