Default Who will replace Wenger

Arsene is going to have to go at some point soon, it feels like AFC have barely done any post- Wenger planning.

Now that Simeone looks like he's bound for Chelsea , this is all the top / "elite" managers stitched up eg Klopp @ Liverpool, Ancelotti will be @ Bayern Munich, Pep will be @ Man City. I won't even mention Mourinho probably @ Man U or up and coming Poch currently @ Spurs for obvious reasons. Who will Arsenal appoint? They apparently haven't learnt any lessons from the mess Man U made in post Sir Alex succession planning.

Well it doesn't seem like he's going to be going this summer so where managers are right now doesn't really matter at the rate they lose their jobs these days. Out of all the ones you mentioned Klopp is the only one that has a history of staying at more than one club for a long period of time.

Neither do the AFC board it seems.

Thing is Arsenal will have to think about it, now. Wenger is no spring chicken and his regime has been in place for best part of 20 years, this is not like Man City replacing Pelligrini or Man U replacing Moyes, this is a huge change. Only Sir Alex succession was bigger. We've all seen how succeeding a huge era like Sir Alex haß to be carefully thought out otherwise you get Moyes and LVG. AFC will need to replace Wenger's philosophy, back room staff, regime principles, even club identity. Arsenal under the Wenger era are seen as playing sexy (if unwise) football. It was little bit different before iirc.

Youngesters don't appreciate Wenger's contribution to making Arsenal what it is now. Wenger really changed how Arsenal played. Prior to Wenger's appointment, there were George "bung" Graham a successful time and a brief disaster with Bruce Rioch. In these eras AFC's brand of football was boring, hence the "boring Arsenal" , 1-0 to the Arsenal jibes as they shut up shop after scoring a lead goal. Wenger arrived with his cerebral professor demeanour and continental ideas and their performances improved. A lot of what he did was off the pitch, too.

Personally i just feel AFC board are burying heads in sand, hoping Wenger goes on till he is 95. They really should have courted Pep, Simeone or Klopp and bizarelly done a 1 year hand over..

Klopp, Pep, Simeone, Ancelotti gone, that just leaves.....Rafa

I agree, every top manager has gone and we're left with a man who over retirement age. As usual Arsenal have reacted far to slow.

Got a feeling this question will gain momentum after the inevitable CL #1 leg 2-0 Barcelona result.

It looks like Simeone is not going to Chelsea after all, so he'd be great for Arsenal, but as always we'll do absolutely nothing and Wenger will carry on. I hear frightening rumours that Wenger wants a new contract. One that will keep him at the club into his 70's.

Arsenal will not progress with Wenger. Two FA CUP wins on trot after 9 year trophy drought doesn't disguise the fact AFC have regressed.

They are "struggling" to win the EPL in a year where the usual suspects is Man U, Man City are clinging onto top 4/5 and more shockingly Liverpool and Cheslea are languishing down the table. The FA CUP was at Emirates against recent known FA Cup foes Hull City and you still can't avoid a replay. Arsenal celebrated the recent win against Leicester City as if it they clinched the title, yet LCFC were leading at HT and outplayed you on the counter until Danny Simpson's second yellow/ red card.

In the last 10 years AFC have been eclipsed by Chelsea, Man City, PSG, Bayern, Atletico, Juventus and Sporting. This season Spurs will over take as North London #1. Poch has assembled a young exciting squad with likes of Dier, Kane, Alli et al and if if I were an up and coming starlet I'd prefer Poch to Wenger. I also think clubs like Roma, Fiorentina, West Ham, Southampton and Villarreal will too if Wenger isn't axed / resigns. He has taken the club as far as he can. He's out of ideas and is no longer the only intellectual. The Ox, Ramsay and Chamberlain have all stagnated. Schemes was correct Wilsher has regressed. Nothing to do with injuries.

Is Wenger the man to lead AFC to titles and CL glory? Wenger is stubborn but there needs to be a "leaves by mutual consent" ending I'm afraid.

No matter what people think of Wenger he has been an iconic Manager for the Premier League, and his been an iconic Manager for Arsenal FC.

When Wenger does leave which will be in the next couple of seasons I suspect, the League will deeply miss him, and Arsenal will go through a worse time of it than Man Utd as Arsenal won't come out as Champions when Arsenal do lose Wenger.

Disagree Mystic Mock, I think Arsenal - if they get the right guy (or gal) in the hot seat - will improve the club, new philosophies, new ideas, new regime. Sir Alex left on a high but just arrogantly assumed success would continue under Moyes as they were Man U. Arsene W won't leave Arsenal on a high (probably won't win a big trophy) and whoever comes in can be an improvement. Plus Arsenal can see what happened to Man U post Fergie and avoid same errors.

Not necessarily, their rivals like the idea of them being in wilderness, but being in London (alot of snobby foreign players and managers will never touch Manchester or Liverpool with a barge pole) means they can bounce back easier than most.

When he arrived at Arsenal in 1996 Wenger was never an elite manager. He had been managing in Japan then Monacco. Hardly Juventus, Real Madrid and PSG 1970. I think an up and comer like Tuchel - he's improved Dortmund from Klopp era IMHO - or Schmidt at Mainz would be good choices as appointment. These are hungry ambitious up and comers as young Wenger once was, with fresh ideas and new messages, they are likely to ve the new Pep, the new Klopp, the new Ancelotti. These are who Arsenal should be looking at.
