..this was said in 2013 so I don't know if it's still going ahead next month...

The Government is bringing in compulsory microchipping for all dogs from 6 April 2016 to help reunite owners with lost or stolen pets, relieve the burden on animal charities and local authorities and protect the welfare of dogs by promoting responsible dog ownership.

I don't know why people wouldn't want to get this done

In some cases it's a case of not being able to afford it, or in others it so they can breed dogs and then abandon them with no consequences

Yes it is, though I wonder if the companies will charge a fee to change address as they have done so in the past

I don't think it's very expensive to have it done (I don't remember because I got my dogs done when she was being spayed so I'm ot sure how much the microchip bit cost on it's own and the breeder micro chips all their kittens before they sell them) but tbf if a person can't afford to look after the dogs needs like micro chipping and vet bills should they really get a dog?

I don't think being unable to afford to micro chip your dog or cat necessarily equates to being a bad owner

I didn't say that. I said if you can't afford to pay for things that your dog should have maybe you shouldn't get one.

But having a micro chip isn't a legal requirement and doesn't impact on your dogs health so it's up to the owner to decide how important it is to them, I don't think it should come down to if you can't afford to microchip you can't have a dog

..hmmmm, the only reason I could think of is of those who keep dogs other than as loved family pets.../that they're just not bothered, type thing ...if a dog is generally neglected and uncared for, then having it micro-chipped would be something that wouldn't be done either..?...
