The Radio 1 thing is an absolute joke. The launch is now definitely going to flop and it deserves to

ITV2 wanted Love Island to do better this year so they threw a **** load of promotion at it and it's paid off. Why can't C5 have the same attitude?

The Twitter, Facebook and Instagram promo has been good...although the official Twitter has barely tweeted at all over the last few weeks which is pathetic, but can anyone comment on the frequency the ads have been played on C5 and the other channels they own?

Love Island's was being rolled during every break on every channel, you couldn't bloody get away from it

It was surprisingly good last year, better than BB16 and I'm calling it now, from the way this series has started it's going to be better than BB17 too

Most of the promotion thus far has been directed at fans; people who already watch the show. The only way that this could positively influence ratings is if it generated discussion amongst friendship groups and whatnot. Radio 1 would have been a great opportunity to promote the show to people who don't often watch it or don't watch it at all and are intruged.

However, I don't think Rylan is fully to blame. They shouldn't have relied on this one chance of promoting to a wider audience, and definitely shouldn't have left it until the day before.

i thought it was too good to be true that civ bb would get some promo on early morning radio 1... i doubt they'll bother inviting anyone again after rylan didn't show up

I don't understand why Rylan didn't even try to get on Radio 1 somehow. He was obviously in London anyway as he was on This Morning, and New Broadcasting House isn't that far away from the Southbank where ITV Studios is. And even if he couldn't make it into the studio, he still could've phoned into the show like Paddy McGuinness did.

Nope, he just plain didn't go on the radio. By the sound of it, they had to call Greg James in as a last minute replacement.

Just downloaded the App, it seems fine tbh, nothing really wrong with it.

I like it, it's an easy design and user friendly.

the Love Island App has a lot going on which makes it less simplistic.

Don't see what's so better about the LI App.

I'm going to be honest, I think that's all it needs. I've seen it mentioned a lot on Twitter and Facebook. Love Island still won't get as many viewers as BB does, despite all of the promo you mention or how much they throw it in people's faces. Let's face it, BB has a set audience now, and even if they did reel some extra viewership in at Launch, it's very unlikely that they'd remain tuned in.

Launch always ends up getting more viewers than the rest of the series, just because of general curiosity.

That's just how it is is nowadays. The Celeb series reaches out to more people naturally and holds a better average, because of the Celebs I guess and it has a reputation of being decent on C5 both drama wise/cast wise.

You can't fault Rylan, really. Sure he missed this R1 interview, but it's possible it could have been rescheduled for Launch, which actually would make more sense considering it's the day of and they'll want to grab people's attention to get last minute viewers. But who knows.

Was it actually confirmed he just missed it?

He's plugged it on This Morning a lot, been very active on Twitter, and is doing a BB Special on his Chat Show tonight, and I'm not huge on the guy myself as a presenter, but his promo has been fine.

I mean, the Big Brother app is fine for what it does, but when you compare it to the Love Island app you can definitely tell which has had the bigger investment put into it.

With the Love Island app, you can track the Islanders individually, vote for free, tweet from within the app, take part in polls and quizzes etc. It's been made by Tellybug, a company that specifically makes apps for big-budget TV shows (they also make the apps for The X Factor, I'm a Celeb, BGT etc) and it has the interactivity that makes you want to go back to it. Admittedly, it does look a little cluttered, but I'd rather have all those bonus features with other things being a little harder to find than not have them there at all.

With Big Brother's app, it's just the website, but in an app frame (with the odd poll or two). You can even load the app-specific parts from the website (e.g the Twitter section - http://bigbrother.channel5.com/twitter).

It's just slightly disappointing that with this series being marketed as a "relaunch", they haven't invested in all sides of the show.

Yeah I get what you mean, those little added features are quite cool. I just remember it being slated badly and I couldn't really remember what it was like, so basically it's a lot better than I thought it was.

Hopefully it will evolve a little over the next few years.
