But they are doing harm, I'm scared to put my washing out incase they get me :/

And the woman on the phone said they wont remove them if they are masonry bee's so I don't know what they will do when they come out

Of course they wont sting you just ignore them. They are there to get pollen not sting humans, ignore them and they will ignore you

I pretty much agree LT, plus I love Bees, they are becoming endangered now as are butterflies, so we should encourage them by planting flowers and such, not murder/get rid of them I have planted stuff to encourage them to my garden.
