He wasn't causing any harm, if anything he was mildly annoying.

yeah Tiago also did send me lots of pm's, i did really like him though, genuinely excited about his games on here

but i know that some found it annoying, i found it a bit annoying as well

but being permabanned for that, a bit harsh if you ask me, but the mods were fair, if lots of people were annoyed by it

He did annoy me but not because of his name polls, but because of his constant private messages. Like half of my Inbox consists of them.

I'm sure the mods warned him but he probably just ignored them. That's what you get, Tiago...

..that would be an idea Johnny but I think that it's really about people accepting accountability/responsibility as well more than anything else for their own part in these things/bans..(and also letting go of grudges etc..)...I see that Kirk is banned and I'm really sorry about that..I think that as much as many of us are in quite a bit of frustration with SD atm and feel that something has to change, I don't think that bans are the answer, well they're not being the answer or solving because here we are again...and I also personally think that the bans themselves, being as frequent as they're becoming are equally reflecting negatively on the forum as much as the SD constant squabbles are.../both having an equal negative effect on the forum...

...the thing with what you suggested would only work also if that person wasn't able to view that section also because otherwise being able to read and view but being banned from posting would just (I think) lead to building up frustrations and more negativity...having your voice stifled is also very far from being a solution I think...another thing could be for admin if it were possible, to force ignores on certain members, to themselves go into an account and add an ignore that they feel necessary to be there for a certain length of time, try removing it after that time and see if that's made a difference...but then again, it's really down to self responsibility with all of these things...(and also our friends doing what they can as well in not saying, woah this is what they said etc...because no one wants to see bans at all but especially with those we enjoy seeing most posting on the forum..)...

..anyways, I don't think that bans for this specific issue in SD atm are the solution because they're becoming so frequent and they haven't solved but probably have only led to more heightened emotions and more frustration, which seems to defeat the point and be counter-productive..I also think that they're potentially forum splitting and very damaging, we don't have so many active members on the forum as used to be anyway so everyone vital to be here...it's hard to know what the solution is because I really do think that seeing and accepting our own responsibility and culpability is the main thing so just the obvious of reporting when we feel that someone is being offensive/insulting/personal etc...(a little plea to admin..)...could Kirk be unbanned please and could he not have any of his 'privileges' taken away of restricted posting and could we just see if this all can be moved forward from and just us all show a little more 'equal respect' in our differing opinions no matter who we're responding to or whatever.../no targeting of specific members in a more hostile way and no pushing of buttons or insulting of someone to provoke hostility either...the other thing would maybe be to have a different system for SD and 'ongoing specific personal clashes' in a one warning thing and it's a one day ban for all involved, so in a particular situation all are equally held accountable and separate from any other forum infractions and build up of such.../but that isn't an ideal either and an extreme thing when with us all being grown ups and all, it shouldn't be necessary to have things enforced on us and not be able to self-discipline how we speak to people....

Yeah I totally agree with that, I didn't mind the PM's personally and he was always friendly with it, and he only PM'd when he set up a new thread so it was maybe one PM every few days? So I wouldn't say it was constant, and easy enough to just ignore if you weren't interested (on that, can't you stop people from PMing you if they're on your ignore list?). Anyway yeah I get why it would be annoying but I think a permaban is a bit much when there are a lot of people who really liked him and he never hurt anyone People have done much worse than be kinda annoying imo

..I also think..(going back to my other post..)...if this/Kirk's ban is connected to the gummibear thread...(I can't believe I'm typing about gummi bear threads with something so serious and causing so much discord..)...that over the last few days, there has been quite a bit of discussion between members in that thread and actually really positive discussion in discussing any SD section issues so steps forward../and ok maybe a bit of a step backward happened as well but that's always going to happen also with something that has reached this level of frustration for so many, including staff... but those steps forward and the discussions and conversations that have taken place are the real thing of importance and in Kirk being banned now, I feel that's going to be counter-productive and carrying on building on what has been talked about and just be another cause in it carrying on.../more frustrations being added and more bad feelings, is really not what any of it needs right now...

Always good posts from you Ammi and ones that do open up a lot of thought.

Speaking from my perspective,I have got tired of some of the personal attacks I have had made against myself, only by single figure numbers as to members, no more.
I think in all my time on here I have reported 3 posts.

I do also think there likely comes a time when the mods to act for just about all, need to impose bans too.
I do not believe any of them really want to have to do so but often are left with little choice.

However, having been reluctant to use it before, it was suggested to me as to using the ignore section.
I have duly done so and you mentioned this in your post earlier, it is really a good way.
I avoid getting all the unnecessary hassle I would have, I can ignore totally the posts of the likely offending nature.

What is really sad to me on here, is people are in the main adults yet problems arise to look good or try to take control if certain areas or issues.
Disagreement with another's view can be seen as stupidity.
All wrong.

What is the answer, I like the ignore feature now, easy to do and it helps avoid totally anyone who may just be out to bait, antagonise or deliberately bring about arguments with yourself via sometimes very personal insults.
So maybe instead of bans some enforced ignore feature between members as you sort of touched on earlier could help.

It has helped me in one direction certainly and made me feel able to return a little more to SD now.

Any points can be made strongly on anything, personally insulting others, calling them, stupid or liars etc; should not and should never be acceptable however.
Perhaps in that instance sadly, a ban may be the only way to restore some peace.
