That's what I mean, Ben & Jay have been on the show constantly (the only time Ben wasn't on the show was when he was in prison) and we've never had a mention of them learning to drive.

This is why I'm liking SOC's era so much, it's more character-driven and he focuses on simplistic ideas that other producers probably thought to be too boring to include (such as the bin storyline which I actually love in retrospect)

I like that. Because it's not like DS love to exaggerate, it wasn't a storyline or taking screen time from the actual stories, it was a realistic backdrop that the different characters could reference. Makes them more believable as characters with lives and stuff like that. (Apart from Abi, who has no life and pretends she's going out when people knock on Dot's house and she's eating popcorn in the dark teehee).

Rather than like Ronnie bleating on about "My sister..." or Denise constantly harping on about the baby. It shows there is more to their lives than being isolated to their own storylines.

The same with Kim learning to drive or Stacey decorating her new home

Yeah I've really enjoyed it. At least Denise has the GCSE English storyline which has been good. I'm not really sure where she thinks she's going to end up with 1 GCSE, mind.
