No one on here EVER produces good evidence from original, unbiased sources. Literally doesn't happen. I'm including myself in that, too, although I'd say I'm usually pretty upfront about my posts being based on my own opinion.

Using a newspaper article as a source - no matter WHICH newspaper - is using a second hand source already biased by the opinions of its author.

Tldr: newspapers are never good sources. You would never get away with citing one in an official or academic document as a source of fact. There's a reason for that.

I don't disagree with you. I have a blog post about just this.
Like Withano, I think any link is better than no link at all. There's nothing more frustrating than opening a threat to a news story only to find it has no link… its difficult to start a dialogue on hearsay.

As for using the DM as a source... when a poster perpetually posts stories from this trash tabloid, you know you can't debate with them because their political knowledge is flawed by a distorted view of how politics works.

Which makes LT's posted stats on "news" circulation / readership stats all the more disturbing. These are the papers that the "great" British public are buying every day. I don't see how anyone can take democracy even remotely seriously when the worldview of the general public, the people voting, is so hideously and bizarrely distorted.

I agree... its woman hating, Muslim bashing, NHS undermining peace of crap but its a peace of crap that is embraced by so many people in this country.

Part of the trick is to make the world seem more threatening than it is: crime is rising, migrants flooding the country, benefit scroungers swindling the taxpayer, standards of education falling, wind turbines taking over the countryside. Almost anything you eat or drink could give you cancer.
The Mail then assures readers they are not alone in their anxieties about this changing world. The Mail gives its readers a sense of belonging in an increasingly complex and unsettling world. http://www.newstatesman.com/media/20...iberal-britain

You can always spot a DM reader because they become alarmists about all of the above.

Yes I wonder what kind of 'agenda' that is

The difference being is that most newspapers don't have as much of a vile legacy as the Mail does

All you have done throughout this thread is complain about why its in SD. Even when you've been advised by a mod that its staying here you refuse to stop complaining. If you don't like it, you don't have to come here but if you are going to come here, then please try and debate the topic instead of behaving like a petulant child.

Sorry DR
also LT is the same

No Mods are great
they help us all.

But I am with the Law of the Land
I would NEVER say ban the Guardian , for example.

I love your input DR.
as you are able to see outside the box,
so to speak,
And you even had time to supply a Link
to one of my 4AM threads
Thank You DR

Maybe you can make another thread about this, Arista, where people can chat about the DM etc. A third thread in the suggestions subforum mght also be a good idea.. But for now, I think people are fine debating whether it has a place on this forum, so the serious debate subforum seems appropriate.

I voted yes initially, people can use whatever source they like, however, there are some good arguments for it being banned im gonna have to read the debate progress a little longer.

There are no more good arguments for it to be banned than left wing rags. You can't effectively ban articles by a paper on one side of an argument whilst allowing articles by a paper on the other side. That would just be biased and completely undemocratic.

Seems that some of the left-leaners on here don't value the democratic process if it doesn't suit. What would that say about a future labour government if typical of some supporters on here - would they ignore a public vote every time it didn't go their way.
