Let's face it, they'll NEVER go down the suicide route in a soap unless the character committing suicide is an established villain that we lack sympathy for. It's insensitive, let alone triggering for those who are having suicidal thoughts anyway.

I don't know, because I don't watch Hollyoaks, but they couldn't have had her actually commit suicide because it'd cause viewers to believe that it's "the only way out". The reason they DO these storylines is to show viewers that it's NOT.

I can guarantee you that EastEnders would receive an extraordinary number of complaints if they were to kill off someone who is already suffering by having them commit suicide.
