I grew up in Ayrshire, have lived down near Manchester, and now back north of the border and there is honestly very little difference at all for the mostpart.

I have also lived in Dundee (For University) and I would say that it was notably colder in the winter, and also drier in the summer, than Ayrshire but that's an East / West coast difference rather than a north and south. In fact, I would say the weather in Ayrshire is much more akin to the weather in the North of England than it is the east coast of Scotland.

Further towards the north / the Highlands & Islands I would say it is significantly colder in winter... but something like 75% of Scotland's population is in the Central Belt + borders. The weather is pretty much the same as anywhere else in the UK .

I'm from Ayrshire. Just looking at weather maps it seems like the southern part of England is usually a few degrees warmer. The middle less so, and the north about the same.

Kizzy the Tory Princess.isnt it a bit of a stretch to claim the government wants people to die. Usually everyone complains that they give wealthy people too much. Isn't the point that those who don't need extra heating help won't get it.

Same old rubbish spouted in a political debate..the nasty tories want pensioners to die....absolute rubbish..

Rather pathetic and childish to say and think this.

Get a new shock tactic, the bitterness at others success is shockingly evident.

Well May's not exactly happy about it and she said as much but there's not much she can do really, its Ruth Davidson's decision on a devolved issue on behalf of the Scottish Conservatives who have the right to make their own decision on things like this

Just shows how desperate the Torys are in Scotland that they will screw over their leader and pensioners living outside of Scotland for votes, all this talk of its fair that we give to those in need doesn't seem to apply when Labour tries it, suddenly it's a great idea but only for outside Scotland mind, honestly I can't believe what I'm reading on this thread

The post of this thread for me.

It is beyond belief and yes it is Ruth Davidson the Scottish Con leader who has thrown this out going right against her National leader and party.

However it appears Mrs May will only make her views of disappointment, only token ones, not to jeopardise deceiving Scots into handing her a handful more possibly of seats there.

I'm a tory princess? :/

No, it's at the core of laissez faire ideology, sink or swim...

No the point is those who do need it won't claim it, either through pride or circumstance.

If it is not too hard to whittle down those who can't claim dole, ESA etc based on income then it shouldn't be too hard to do the same with the winter fuel payment.

I don't think you need to claim it at the moment, pretty sure all pensioners get it ,Some well off pensioners have said they don't need it so I don't see the problem with them not having it.

If they don't want it or need it they can say so, or donate the money to a charity... Why if some don't need it should that mean those that do have to jump though hoops yo get it?

There are also people who say they don't need it but they paid their taxes and NI all their life so they may as well get something back, how can Scotland afford to keep giving ALL their pensioner winter fuel, yet England can't, it's take take take with the Tory's is anyone getting anything back? so far the only ones that are going to benefit from the Tory manifesto are Starbucks when their corporation tax is cut... no tax breaks for the "ordinary working people" May keeps banging on about, oh and Brexit which is going ahead anyway whatever party gets in.

Don't Scotland get over Ł1500 per head extra than England due to the Barnett formula?
Even Barnett himself said the system was unfair in 2004 and that it isn't working.

You could say this though about people who want things for free all the time even when they don't need it,that smacks of greed to me,if someone says they don't want it as they don't need it surely that can go towards people who do,it seems we want to take, take, take even when we don't need it.

It's not greed though, we should be looking after our elderly, greed is squirrelling millions off shore and companies paying minimum wage not Doris getting 100.00 towards her fuel bill
